英语高中作文 篇1

English is the most widely used language in the world. It is used as the mother tongue in some countries across the world, such as England, America and Canada.

My hometown, Luoyang, is a famous tourist destination which is visited by many foreigners every year. I wish people all over the world knew of the beautiful places in my hometown, such as the Longmen Grottos and White Horse Temple.

For me, English is important because I can use it to introduce places of interest in Luoyang to tourists. English is like a bridge between two cultures. It allows me to make friends with Luoyang’s foreign visitors.

Today we live in the information age. There are many new things being invented every day, which are only described in English. If I want to find out detailed information about these new inventions, I need to know English. So English is essential if I want to gain new knowledge.

English is a universal language. It’s the language of science and the language of commerce. English allows me to communicate with people from every corner of the globe.

In short, English is a bridge to the world.

how should we read? should we read selectively or etensively? everyone has his own view.

some people think we should read selectively. they argue that with the development of modern science and technology, more and more books are published every day. it is impossible for us to read all the books. what’s more, there are many bad books that are poisonous to our mind, and we shouldn’t read them. since we can’t read all the books, and we shouldn’t read bad books, we must read selectively.

but others many not agree. they emphasize that today’s society is not what it used to be. if you want to be successful, you must read widely and acquire knowledge in both natural sciences and humanities. if a man knows much in one field but little in others, he may not be of great use to the society. since we must have a wide range of knowledge, we must read etensively.

who’s right? there is a lot to be said for both sides of the argument. however, i think we should read etensively first and then read selectively and dig into the subject we want to specialize in. (194 words)

The other day my brother and I went to the cinema by bicycle. My brother was riding with me sitting on the seat behind. As we came to the crossroads a young man and a girl came up and stopped us. ‘We‘ve found you at long last,’ they said. But we didn’t know them. Pointing to a policeman not far away, the young man explained, ‘He stopped us about half an hour ago and made us catch the next offender. So come on, stand here. Hope you don‘t have to wait as long as we did . Good luck.’

高中英语作文: Stress in life

As everyone knows, stress is a natural part of everyday life and there is no way to avoid it. As the pace of modern life continues to increase, we are always feeling on the go from morning till night. And it is hard to slow down. Therefore, stress goes hand in hand with the life in a competitive society.

Different people, however, think of stress quite differently. Some believe that stress is not the bad thing it is often supposed to be. They are of the opinion that a certain amount of stress is vital to provide motivation and give purpose to life. Others argue that stress contributes to one's mental decline and hence endangers his health. According to them, relaxation, the opposite of stress, is essential for a healthy mind and body.

Personally, I'm in favor of the former view. I think it is impossible to avoid stress when one is entirely devoted to the career he pursues. In my opinion, it is only when the stress gets out of control that it can lead to poor performance and ill health.

on the way to a mountain in the dead of winter, i dropped behind the group i was traveling with and got lost.

to make matters worse, it began to rain heavily. the wind blew hard, and the blasted forest groaned as if in pain. and so overcast was the sky that night came several hours earlier than usual. cold and frightened, i was trembling all over. all i could do was shout for help, but no help was forthcoming. the night became darker, the wind blew harder, and the rain poured down more heavily. i ate my last piece of food, a tiny piece of cake. totally despaired, i was waiting not for miracle but for death. suddenly, a thunderclap woke me up.

a rainstorm was indeed raging outside, but i was grateful to find that i only had a nightmare.
